Central Java Introduces Green Industry Concept to High School Students
The Central Java provincial government has started introducing the concept of green industry to high school and vocational school students. This step is taken to ensure that awareness of a green and sustainable economy is cultivated early, preparing them for the workforce or entrepreneurship.
Governor Ahmad Luthfi stated that the transformation towards green industry cannot be carried out solely by the government, industrial estates, or business actors. He emphasised that a shift in mindset must begin within the education sector. “We are educating our high school students to love the green economy, we are introducing it to them,” Luthfi said during the Central Java Green Industrial Summit 2026.
He explained that involving the education sector is part of building a green industry ecosystem from upstream to downstream. The summit brought together local government, industry players, industrial estates, universities, and representatives from high schools and vocational schools across Central Java.
Head of the Central Java Industry and Trade Office, July Emmylia, explained that the green industry concept rests on three main principles: resource efficiency, low emissions through waste management and recycling, and social and environmental responsibility. She noted that by adhering to these principles, industries can reduce operational costs while growing without harming the environment.
“We are also involving high schools and vocational schools throughout Central Java to train our students, who may become future CEOs, to understand green industry from an early age,” she said.
During the event, the provincial government presented awards to schools and companies demonstrating a commitment to green industry. In the education category, SMAN 3 Semarang, SMAN 6 Semarang, and SMKN 5 Semarang were recognised as the most active schools supporting green education programs. For the industrial sector, PT Ozzy Batik Pekalongan won first place in the small industry category, while PT Semen Grobogan won the large and medium industry category. The Batang Integrated Industrial Estate received the top award for green industrial estates.
