The Central Java High Court has imposed a harsher sentence on former Acting Regent of Cilacap, Awaluddin Muuri, in a corruption case concerning the procurement of 716 hectares of land by PT Cilacap Segara Artha, a regional government-owned enterprise.

Head of the Legal Information Section at the Central Java Prosecutor’s Office, Arfan Triono, in Semarang on Thursday, stated that the public prosecutor has received a copy of the High Court’s decision.

According to him, the 2.5-year sentence handed down by the Semarang Corruption Court has been increased to 10 years imprisonment at the appeal level.

“The Central Java High Court has also imposed an additional penalty of repayment of state losses amounting to Rp1.8 billion,” he said.

The former Cilacap Regency Regional Secretary will face an additional 1.5 years in prison if he is unable to pay the state restitution.

In addition to Awaluddin Muuri, the Central Java High Court has also increased the sentence for Commissioner of PT Cilacap Segara Artha, Iskandar Zulkarnain, in the same case.

The 3-year and 9-month sentence against Iskandar Zulkarnain, as imposed by the Semarang Corruption Court, has been raised to 10 years imprisonment in the appeal decision.

The criminal act began when the Director of PT Rumpun Sari Antan, Andhy Nur Huda, offered the sale of the company’s HGU land in Cipari Subdistrict to Perumda Kawasan Industri Cilacap.

The land purchase was agreed at Rp237 billion with PT Cilacap Segara Artha, followed by payment.

In return for the payment, Andhy Nur Huda subsequently gave Rp1.8 billion to the defendant Awaluddin Muuri and Rp4.3 billion to Commissioner of PT Cilacap Segara Artha Iskandar Zulkarnain, who is also on trial in this case.
