Central Java Governor Says 'Fish Rots from the Head' After Regent's Corruption Arrest

Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi has expressed concern following the arrest of Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani in a sting operation by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). He stated that he has frequently reminded regional heads in his area to run a clean and accountable government. “The fish rots from the head,” Luthfi said when asked for his opinion on the operation in Jakarta on Friday. He added that government leaders, including regional heads, must set a good example. “Whether it relates to position, the use of the budget, or official accountability, it must be transparent and accountable. That is the key,” he said. Luthfi expressed his support for the KPK’s enforcement action, citing the principle of equality before the law.
