Central Java Governor Receives Iranian Envoy, Conveys Condolences on Khamenei's Death

Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi received a visit from Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, at the Central Java Governor’s Office on Wednesday (22/7). During the meeting, Luthfi expressed deep condolences over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. In addition to the condolences, Luthfi also conveyed a message of peace from Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and the people of Central Java regarding the conflict in the Middle East. “As Governor of Central Java, I express my deepest condolences on the passing of Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. May he rest in husnul khotimah. We pray that the conflict in Iran will be resolved soon,” Luthfi said. It is understood that the conflict in Iran has had a tremendous impact on other countries around the world. This impact has also been felt indirectly by Central Java and Indonesia in recent times. “In this meeting, we also conveyed a message of peace from President Prabowo Subianto and the entire community of Central Java, specifically to Iran and Middle Eastern countries in general,” Ahmad Luthfi continued. Responding to this, Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi expressed gratitude for the condolences offered by Governor Ahmad Luthfi, as well as the message of peace from President Prabowo Subianto. He acknowledged that during the conflict in Iran, many messages and support had been sent to the Iranian Embassy, including messages from the people of Central Java who consistently offered support for Iran’s struggle against military aggression. These messages were sent through various means, including letters. “During this war, especially the recent war, I received many messages from the Indonesian people, particularly from Central Java and Semarang. I have only been able to read some of these messages, as there are more than a thousand of them. It is my duty to express my thanks,” he said. Boroujerdi further explained that the relationship between Iran and Indonesia, including Central Java, has been established for a very long time. Since 2016, this relationship has been affected by unilateral interventions and sanctions imposed on Iran by the United States. This has limited the Iran-Indonesia relationship, preventing it from reaching its full potential despite strong political, social, and cultural ties. “I hope that after this war ends, the potential possessed by both countries can be increasingly utilised for cooperation. These two countries have complementary potential,” he explained.
