A total of 175 households, or 532 people, have been affected by the land movement disaster in Bojongsari hamlet, Sridadi village, Sirampog district, Brebes regency. Some of the affected residents have been forced to take shelter at evacuation centres, as the ground movement has reportedly not fully ceased.

Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi conducted a direct inspection of the evacuation site whilst chairing a meeting on disaster response and aid distribution at the Bahrul Qur'an Al Munawir Islamic Boarding School in Sirampog, Brebes, on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.

Luthfi pledged to accelerate the response, including the construction of temporary shelters at a location that has been deemed technically safe. "For land movement of this nature, what can be done is to relocate people and their belongings," he said.

According to data from the Brebes Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), at least 143 homes have been affected, with 10 houses severely damaged and 124 others classified as under threat. In addition, two places of worship and two educational facilities have also been affected. A main village road stretching approximately 700 metres has also subsided.

Current conditions indicate that ground movement remains active due to heavy rainfall in the Sirampog hill areas. The direction of the landslide is moving south-west, with the potential for further movement remaining high.

Given this situation, Luthfi urged residents not to return to their respective homes, as conditions remain dangerous.

The Central Java Provincial Government has coordinated with the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). The plan is to construct temporary shelters on plot 34G belonging to the West Pekalongan Forest Management Unit (KPH) of Perhutani.

Meanwhile, the evacuation centre has been established at the Bahrul Qur'an Al-Munawir Islamic Boarding School in Limbangan hamlet. A communal kitchen has been set up using the Unexpected Expenditure Budget (BTT).

During the visit, Luthfi also distributed total aid of Rp 175.97 million. The assistance came from the Central Java Provincial BPBD (Rp 18.24 million), the Central Java Social Affairs Office (Rp 90.77 million), the Food Security and Animal Husbandry Office (Rp 18 million), the Health Office (Rp 11.77 million), the Education Office (Rp 27 million), and the Indonesian Red Cross (Rp 10.19 million).

Brebes Regent Paramitha Widya Kusuma expressed appreciation for the swift response of the Central Java Provincial Government in handling the disaster in her area. "The people of Brebes need not worry any longer; we are working together through mutual cooperation, and everything has been prepared by the Central Java provincial agencies," she said.

One resident of Bojongsari hamlet, Sridadi village, Susi Susanti, said she had to evacuate with her three children, including a 10-month-old baby. She chose to evacuate for the safety of her children. At the evacuation centre, she hoped that baby supplies such as nappies, soap, baby oil, and bathing essentials would remain available.

Another resident, Tona, whose wooden house is situated at the edge of a forest and near a river, has never been at ease during heavy rain, as the riverbank keeps drawing closer to his home. "It is much worse now. The ground is moving very quickly. When it rains heavily at night, I cannot rest easy," he said.

He expressed hope of being relocated to a truly safe location. "If there were permanent housing, I would very much welcome it, so that I could live in peace," he said.

The land movement disaster in Sirampog, Brebes, occurred on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, at approximately 6.00 p.m. local time. The incident was triggered by extreme weather that caused ground movement on a slope with an incline of approximately 45 degrees, directed towards the Kali Keruh river in the highland area of Sirampog district.
