Central Java Governor Monitors Legal Process of Sukoharjo Regent
The Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, has stated that his office has not yet appointed an Acting Regent (Plt) of Sukoharjo. The move follows the naming of the Regent of Sukoharjo, Etik Suryani, as a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Luthfi explained that the appointment of an acting regent would be carried out with great care and in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations. The Central Java Provincial Government is continuing to monitor developments in the legal process under way at the anti-graft agency.
He made the statement on the sidelines of a thanksgiving event marking the 27th anniversary of the Indonesian National Police Retirees Association, Batang Branch, on Saturday, 11 July 2026. Although the regional leadership is under legal scrutiny, he gave assurances to the people of Sukoharjo regarding the continuity of the bureaucracy.
The Governor emphasised that the wheels of government in Sukoharjo Regency would not grind to a halt. He ensured that public services would continue to run normally without any significant disruption as a result of the legal case ensnaring the regent.
“The Central Java Provincial Government continues to follow developments in the case whilst preparing strategic measures so that services to the public are not disrupted,” said Luthfi.
Mitigation efforts are being prepared by the provincial administration to ensure that administrative functions in Sukoharjo remain under control during this legal transition period.
On the same occasion, Ahmad Luthfi expressed his full support for the KPK’s steps in pursuing corruption eradication in Central Java. According to him, decisive action through sting operations (OTT) is an important part of creating clean governance.
“In principle, we support the sting operation carried out by the KPK in the interest of creating a clean government with character,” he affirmed.
He added that law enforcement with integrity is the main foundation for building public trust in regional government. As of the time of this report, the Central Java Provincial Government is still awaiting further coordination on the definitive legal status before taking the next administrative step regarding leadership in Sukoharjo Regency.
The KPK has named the Regent of Sukoharjo and two officials as suspects in an alleged extortion case, with cash, foreign currency and gold seized as evidence.
