Central Java Governor Appoints Eko Sapto as Acting Regent of Sukoharjo

Semarang (ANTARA) - Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi has appointed Deputy Regent of Sukoharjo, Eko Sapto Purnomo, as Acting Regent of Sukoharjo, after Regent Etik Suryani was named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). “We have appointed the acting regent, namely the deputy regent. This is in accordance with the law,” he said during a Coordination and Field Monitoring Meeting on Controlling the Conversion of Rice Fields and Waste Management at the Gradhika Bhakti Praja Building, Semarang, on Monday. In accordance with statutory provisions, he said, the acting position is filled by the deputy head of the region so that governance can continue to function. He assured that public services within the Sukoharjo Regency Government will continue to operate following the appointment of the acting regent. “The acting regent was appointed yesterday; there must be no vacancy. Our principle is that if there is law enforcement by the KPK or other parties in a district or city, public services must not be disrupted,” he said. He stated that various preventive measures had been undertaken, ranging from guidance, signing memoranda of understanding, to integrity pacts with regional heads. “We have reminded and continue to remind them. If they have been reminded, signed an MoU, signed an integrity pact, but still commit violations, then the risk is their own responsibility,” he said. He also expressed respect for the legal process carried out by the KPK, because law enforcement against individuals must not hinder governance or services to the public. “Those who committed the act are responsible. There is no impact on the institution, and governance continues to run,” he said.
