Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi Urges Civil Servants to Cycle to Work
Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi plans to instruct civil servants, or ASN, in his region to cycle to work. The programme aims to enhance energy efficiency.
“We are awaiting the circular from the central government. Insha’Allah, it will be issued on 31 March. The Central Java Provincial Government has already begun taking steps,” Luthfi said on Monday, 30 March 2026.
He stated that he has conducted studies on several programmes for national energy efficiency. However, implementation awaits the circular from the central government.
“We have prepared a draft; if necessary, on certain days all ASN will cycle, including regents and mayors,” he said. “So, to the office by bicycle or public transport.”
Efforts to reduce energy use will also be implemented through a work-from-home programme. ASN who are not in roles providing direct services to the public do not need to come to the office.
According to Luthfi, several planned efficiency programmes are being refined before socialisation. “Once the central government announces it, Central Java is ready,” he said.
