Central Java Government Rewards Primary School Student Who Found NASA Security Flaw with Laptop

The Central Java Provincial Government has presented a laptop to Ibrahim Al Abrar, a primary school student from Boyolali Regency, who received recognition from the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for discovering a security vulnerability in one of the agency’s systems.

Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi, during a meeting with Ibrahim in Semarang on Wednesday, expressed his hope that the laptop would help further develop the boy’s abilities in coding and cybersecurity. He praised Ibrahim’s enthusiasm for learning, noting that the student had been independently studying coding and cybersecurity since the fourth grade.

According to the governor, young talents like Ibrahim need support to continue developing and to bring honour to Indonesia on the international stage. Ibrahim received a ‘Letter of Recognition’ as a token of appreciation for helping to improve the security of NASA’s systems.

The primary school student, who aspires to become a professional cybersecurity practitioner, spends three to four hours each day in front of a computer. Besides NASA, Ibrahim has also previously discovered a vulnerability in a system belonging to the Lampung Provincial Government and received a certificate of appreciation.

He hopes the support from the Central Java Provincial Government will serve as encouragement to continue learning and building a portfolio in the cybersecurity field. Meanwhile, Head of the Central Java Provincial Education Office, Sadimin, stated that the appreciation given is a form of support for high-achieving students to continue developing their potential. ‘A child of primary school age has already received an award from NASA. Of course, we must appreciate this so that he can develop further,’ he said.
