The strategic move is expected to create a safer environment for victims and witnesses. With guaranteed security, the public is expected to be more courageous in reporting and revealing facts before the law.

Central Java Deputy Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen stated that protection efforts do not stop at the legal process. The government also ensures social and psychological recovery for victims.

“The most important thing is that the confidentiality of witnesses and the public can truly be guaranteed. We are not only handling the case, but also the social impacts experienced by the victims,” Taj Yasin said after the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the Central Java Provincial Government and LPSK at the Governor’s Office on Thursday (18/6/2026).

He assessed that many people are still hesitant to report when facing legal issues. Not a few choose to remain silent for fear of confronting parties perceived to have power or influence.

“Sometimes the public still sees whether the opposing party in a legal matter holds a position or not, has power or not. In the end, the truth can be silenced. With this cooperation, we want to show that the state is present to provide protection without discrimination,” he stressed.

This protection applies to various cases occurring in Central Java, including those emerging within the pesantren (Islamic boarding school) environment. The figure familiarly known as Gus Yasin reminded that victims often bear shame and psychological pressure. Therefore, a strong protection system is crucial so they are not further pressured after reporting.

Meanwhile, LPSK Chairman Achmadi said the presence of an LPSK representative office in Central Java will expand public access to protection. He emphasised that protection is not only about physical security but also about building the mental courage of victims.

“When someone enters the legal process and requires protection, they can face various threats, both potential and real. Therefore, the courage to reveal the facts is very important,” Achmadi stated.

Achmadi cited cases of sexual violence in educational settings. In many such incidents, victims are often reluctant to speak out for fear of threats or re-victimisation.

For context, this collaboration between the Central Java Provincial Government and LPSK is the first since the enactment of Law Number 3 of 2026 on the Protection of Witnesses and Victims. This new regulation expands the subjects entitled to protection, including whistleblowers or reporting informants.
