Central Java Government Grants Civil Servants Flexibility for First Day of School

The opportunity to escort one’s child to school is also part of civil servants’ welfare.

Semarang (ANTARA) — The Central Java Provincial Government is inviting fathers to escort their children to school on the first day of the new school year on 13 July 2026.

Regional Secretary of Central Java Province, Sumarno, speaking in Semarang on Saturday, said the invitation aligns with the Fathers Escorting Children on the First Day of School Movement (Gamas).

According to him, the policy follows up on Central Java Governor Circular Letter Number S/400.13.26/207/2026, dated 17 June 2026, concerning the Fathers Collecting Children’s Report Cards from School Movement (Gemar) and the Fathers Escorting Children on the First Day of School Movement (Gamas).

He explained that this scheduling flexibility is a form of the government’s attention to employee welfare, which should not be measured solely by salary and allowances.

“The opportunity to escort one’s child to school is also part of welfare for civil servants,” said Sumarno.

He said that the moment of escorting a child to school is an unrepeatable experience, particularly when the child is still at the basic education level.

Indeed, he said, the morning assembly schedule within the Central Java Provincial Government will be adjusted so as not to prevent civil servants from escorting their children.

Through this policy, he said, the Central Java Provincial Government is encouraging fathers’ active involvement in child-rearing while strengthening family emotional bonds from this important moment at the start of the new academic year.
