The Speaker of the Central Java Provincial House of Representatives (DPRD), Sumanto, has denied involvement in the alleged corruption case concerning the management of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. The denial was issued by Sumanto after a number of social media posts went viral suggesting he was implicated in the case.

β€œThe information circulating is completely untrue. The MBG matter is entirely under the authority of the central government. I also do not know Mr Sony Sonjaya,” Sumanto said in a statement on Wednesday (10/6/2026).

Sumanto admitted he was shocked when the position he currently holds was mentioned or dragged into the alleged corruption case of the MBG programme. He argued that the mention of his position in various social media posts and chain messages was not based on accountable facts.

Sumanto stated he had never communicated with Sony Sonjaya. He therefore urged the public not to readily believe information that has not been verified for its truth. According to him, the dissemination of inaccurate information could potentially lead to misunderstandings and harm parties whose names are baselessly cited.
