Central Java DPRD Chairman Supports Civil Servants Cycling and Running to Work: Good for Health
The Chairman of the Central Java Provincial DPRD, Sumanto, supports Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi’s idea of implementing a policy for civil servants (ASN) to cycle to the office. This policy is part of energy-saving efforts amid soaring global oil prices.
“This is one way to reduce fuel use and promote health. We should encourage it,” said Sumanto at the Central Java DPRD office when asked about Luthfi’s plan to apply the cycling policy for ASN on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
He also supports the idea of ASN running to the office, as proposed by Ahmad Luthfi. “Cycling, running, that’s fine,” he stated.
Previously, Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi said he is studying a policy for ASN, including regents and mayors in Central Java, to cycle to the office as part of saving energy consumption.
Luthfi revealed that the Central Java Provincial Government is still awaiting a circular letter (SE) from the central government on the technical implementation of energy savings. He said the SE is planned to be issued on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
Although there is no directive from the central government yet, Luthfi admitted he is studying the policy so that ASN, including regents and mayors in Central Java, cycle to the office. “We’ve calculated it; if necessary, from tomorrow on certain days, all ASN will cycle with all regents and mayors. So, to the office by bicycle,” he said at the Gradhika Bakti Praja Building in Semarang City on Monday (30/3/2026).
However, Luthfi admitted he does not yet have a picture of the technical implementation of the policy, including the scheduling for its application. “We’ll calculate it later,” he said when asked if the ASN cycling regulation would be applied every day.
He added that, besides cycling, another option for saving energy consumption is to use public transport. “So, we’ll do socialisation, we’ll study it; once the government announces it, Central Java Province is ready,” said Luthfi.
Luthfi admitted he does not yet have a target for energy savings in the scope of the Central Java Provincial Government. “We’re still calculating it together. Besides bicycles, if necessary, run there and back,” he said.
“Work-from-home is also still being studied. Which days are still being studied,” Luthfi added.
