Central Java Diskomdigi Strengthens KIM and FK Metra to Combat Hoaxes in the AI Era

The Communication, Informatics and Digital Service (Diskomdigi) of Central Java Province is strengthening the role of Community Information Groups (KIM) and the Traditional Media Communication Forum (FK Metra) as strategic government partners in countering hoaxes and disinformation amidst the rapid development of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

This was conveyed by the Head of Central Java Diskomdigi, Lilik Henry Ristanto, at the FK Metra and KIM Workshop themed ‘Strategy for Optimising the Role of KIM and FK Metra: Creative, Independent, and Impactful Tips for the Community’ at the Central Java Governor’s Office Complex on Wednesday (15/7).

According to Lilik, AI makes it increasingly difficult for the public to distinguish between true and manipulated information. Therefore, KIM and FK Metra play an important role because they prioritise a humanist, community-based approach that cannot be replaced by technology.

‘The role of KIM and FK Metra is increasingly important because they take on humanist aspects that AI cannot replicate. Their basis is community and traditional media,’ he said.

In addition to countering hoaxes, KIM and FK Metra are also expected to become effective channels for disseminating development information and government programmes to the public.

Chairman of Central Java FK Metra, Daniel Agung Wahyudi, said traditional media remains effective as a means of conveying information because it is close to people’s lives. Meanwhile, KIM Supervisor for the Karanganyar Communication and Information Office, Sopiyatun, emphasised that KIM must have a real impact through digital literacy education, promotion of regional potential, and dissemination of development information.
