Central Java BNN Enlists 1,134 Students as Anti-Drug Volunteers During Community Service Programme
Semarang (ANTARA) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Central Java Province has involved 1,134 students from Universitas PGRI Semarang (Upgris) as anti-narcotics volunteers in the implementation of their community service programme (KKN).
Head of BNN Central Java, Brigadier General Pol. Agus Rohmat, said in Semarang on Tuesday that the students would be deployed to Semarang Regency, Demak, Kendal, and Grobogan to help educate the public about the dangers of narcotics abuse.
According to Agus, the involvement of students is a follow-up to the synergy of the Programme for the Prevention and Eradication of Narcotics Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN) through KKN activities, as well as preparation for participants before they are deployed to the field.
“This collaboration is a first step that will give rise to various innovations and concrete actions in building a young generation that is healthy, intelligent, of good character, and free from drug abuse,” he said.
The Rector of Universitas PGRI Semarang, Sapto Budoyo, said the collaboration with BNN Central Java is a strategic step, as students will interact directly with communities during their KKN and can therefore help provide education about the dangers of narcotics.
According to Sapto, KKN serves as a vehicle for students to apply their knowledge while contributing to efforts to prevent narcotics abuse in society.
Data gathered by ANTARA shows that the 2023-2025 Narcotics Abuse Prevalence Survey indicated that the prevalence of narcotics abuse in Indonesia has reached 2.11 per cent, or around 4.15 million people.
Meanwhile, BNN Central Java Province has previously stated that narcotics abuse in Central Java remains a concern, particularly among young people, while the city of Semarang is one of the regions with the highest number of uncovered cases in the province.
Throughout 2025, BNN Central Java has uncovered 40 narcotics cases involving 43 suspects.
