Central Java BNN Enlists 1,134 Students as Anti-Drug Volunteers During Community Service Programme

The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Central Java Province has involved 1,134 students from PGRI University Semarang (Upgris) as anti-drug volunteers in the implementation of the community service programme (KKN). Central Java BNN Chief Brigadier General Pol. Agus Rohmat stated in Semarang on Tuesday that the students would be deployed to Semarang, Demak, Kendal, and Grobogan regencies to help educate the public on the dangers of narcotics abuse. According to Agus, the involvement of students is a follow-up to the synergy of the Programme for the Prevention and Eradication of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN) through KKN activities, as well as a briefing for participants before they are deployed to the field. “This collaboration is an initial step that will give rise to various innovations and concrete actions in building a young generation that is healthy, intelligent, has character, and is free from drug abuse,” he said. Rector of PGRI University Semarang Sapto Budoyo said the collaboration with the Central Java BNN is a strategic move because students will interact directly with the community while carrying out their KKN, enabling them to provide education about the dangers of narcotics. According to Sapto, KKN serves as a platform for students to apply their knowledge while contributing to efforts to prevent drug abuse in the community. Data from the 2023–2025 Drug Abuse Prevalence Survey shows the prevalence of drug abusers in Indonesia reached 2.11 per cent, or approximately 4.15 million people. Meanwhile, the Central Java BNN previously stated that drug abuse in the province remains a concern, especially among the younger age group, with Semarang City being one of the areas with the highest number of case disclosures. Throughout 2025, the Central Java BNN uncovered 40 drug cases with 43 suspects.
