Central Java Begins Construction of Southeast Asia's Largest Dairy Farm in Brebes
The Central Java Provincial Government has begun building a large-scale integrated dairy farm worth Rp1.2 trillion in Karangbale Village, Larangan District, Brebes Regency.
“This is the largest dairy farm and milk factory in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Central Java will become more self-sufficient in food, particularly regarding milk production,” said Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi after the groundbreaking ceremony in Brebes on Monday.
The dairy farm, utilising 710 hectares of land and developed by PT Global Dairi Bersama, is estimated to have a capacity of around 30,000 head of cattle. The development will be equipped with milk processing facilities, waste-to-biogas and fertiliser processing, as well as an animal feed centre.
The groundbreaking was conducted by Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, Chair of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives Siti Hediati Soeharto, Brebes Regent Paramitha Widya Kusuma, and Saviora Group CEO Ihsan Mulia Putri.
Ahmad Luthfi stated that this investment would support Central Java’s role as a national dairy industry centre. Currently, the dairy cow population in Central Java stands at approximately 77,566 head, with milk production of around 78,465 tonnes per year against a demand of roughly 94,730 tonnes per year.
“The need will clearly be sufficiently met with this investment. So far, we have still required nearly 22,000 tonnes of milk per year, which we have sourced from other provinces. Once this factory is established, it will cover the milk needs of Central Java and the nation,” he said.
Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman noted that national milk demand continues to surge in line with the increasing need to fulfil public nutrition. He therefore encouraged Central Java to achieve food self-sufficiency, especially in milk, to meet national requirements.
“Looking at the model implemented by PT Global Dairi Bersama, I am confident that Central Java, and indeed Indonesia, will soon meet the milk self-sufficiency target,” he said.
