Central Java and Yogyakarta Police Investigate Discovery of Baby on Sancaka Train

An investigation into the discovery of a baby on the Sancaka train is ongoing, with police from two provinces, Central Java and Yogyakarta Special Region, deployed. The baby was found on Saturday (4/7) while the Sancaka train was travelling from Yogyakarta to Surabaya. The infant was subsequently evacuated at Solo Balapan Station and is being cared for at Bhayangkara Hospital in Solo.

Surakarta City Police spokesperson AKP Lingga Ramadhani stated that although the report was filed in Solo, the investigation is being coordinated with the Yogyakarta Regional Police. "Investigators are certainly coordinating, because the initial locus is in Yogyakarta. This is a collaboration between the Central Java Police, specifically the Surakarta City Police, and the Yogyakarta Regional Police," Lingga said on Wednesday (8/7/2026).

She explained that the Women and Children Service and Certain Crimes Unit of the Surakarta City Police is still gathering witness statements and examining CCTV footage. "Our investigators have examined several witnesses and coordinated with relevant parties. The case is still under investigation, with witness examinations and CCTV checks ongoing," she added.

The baby boy is estimated to have been born one week before being found in the train toilet. He is in good health and has been named Bayu Nawasena Bhayangkara. "The initial identification confirms the baby is male. The latest information suggests he was born a week ago. He is still at the hospital," Lingga clarified.
