Central Java and China's Fujian Province Sign Two Strategic Agreements
The Provincial Government of Central Java and Fujian Province, China, have officially strengthened economic synergy through the signing of two new agreements focusing on investment, trade, and youth exchange. This strategic move marks a new chapter in the close bilateral relations between the two provinces.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Central Java Regional Secretary Sumarno, representing Governor Ahmad Luthfi, alongside Fujian Vice Governor Zhao Zenglian. The meeting took place at Gumaya Tower in Semarang on Wednesday, 22 July 2026.
The first agreement emphasises strengthening investment and trade, signed by the Central Java Investment Office and the Fujian Provincial Department of Commerce. The cooperation includes several crucial points to encourage economic growth in both regions.
Beyond the macroeconomic sector, the two provinces also agreed on a youth exchange programme. This agreement was signed by the Head of the Bureau of Governance, Regional Autonomy and Cooperation of the Central Java Regional Secretariat and the Head of the International Cooperation Bureau of Fujian Province.
The programme is designed as an annual agenda lasting approximately 10 days. Young people from Central Java and Fujian will have the opportunity to visit each other and study various important sectors in their respective regions to broaden global perspectives and strengthen intergenerational relations.
Fujian Vice Governor Zhao Zenglian stated that his visit aimed to ensure the realisation of previously planned cooperation, including reviewing the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate (KITB). KITB itself is a vital part of the Two Countries Twin Parks initiative between Indonesia and China.
“This visit has been very successful. At KITB, we saw that companies or tenants in the industrial area already have very good communication. Our focus is the realisation of the two countries’ agreement,” said Zhao Zenglian.
In line with this, Central Java Regional Secretary Sumarno expressed hope that this cooperation could open wider doors for local Central Java products to penetrate the Chinese market. He mentioned that the fisheries, agriculture, and SME product sectors have significant export potential to Fujian.
“This is a manifestation of the growing brotherhood between Central Java and Fujian. We are committed to facilitating and providing ease for investment from Fujian. Not only in KITB, Central Java has many industrial areas ready to be developed together,” concluded Sumarno.
