Central Jakarta Police Intensify Education to Prevent Child Violence
The Central Jakarta Metro Police are intensifying educational and socialisation efforts in schools and integrated child-friendly public spaces (RPTRA) to prevent violence against children and encourage victims to report abuse. The programme aims to teach children about private body parts, how to recognise forms of violence, and the available reporting channels.
According to the Head of the Women and Children Protection and Trafficking in Persons Unit at the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Kompol Rita Oktavia Shinta, the campaign ‘Berani Bicara, Kami Lindungi’ (Dare to Speak, We Protect) and ‘Lapor Bu’ (Report, Ma’am) is being promoted to build children’s confidence to speak out. She noted that many victims remain reluctant to report due to fear of threats from perpetrators or economic dependency, particularly when the abuser is the family breadwinner.
Kompol Rita stated that while the trend of violence cases fluctuates, the number of reports has increased, indicating that more victims and community members are daring to come forward. She urged children not to be afraid, assuring them that the police are there to protect and support them.
