Central Jakarta Police Conduct Raids to Foil Criminal Activity
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polres Metro Jakarta Pusat) conducted raids to anticipate disturbances to public order and safety and acts of crime at several high-risk locations. ‘We continuously intensify patrols and raids to provide a sense of security to the community,’ said Central Jakarta Police Chief, Kombes Pol Reynold EP Hutagalung, in Jakarta on Friday.
The raids, he said, were conducted at several locations across Central Jakarta and began on Friday at 01:00 WIB, involving the district police under the jurisdiction of Central Jakarta. Reynold said officers targeted street crime, possession of sharp weapons, drugs, alcohol, and acts of premanism. During the raids, police inspected motorcyclists who did not wear helmets, had no number plate, or rode with more than two people.
As a result, several suspects found in possession of narcotics and sharp weapons were detained, including a suspect identified as HMG who was arrested in the Jalan Hayam Wuruk, Gambir area. ‘From the suspects, we found a packet believed to contain methamphetamine, synthetic narcotics, a meth pipe, a mobile phone, and a motorcycle,’ Reynold said.
In Menteng, officers found three bottles of arak Bali from a motorcycle rider. Police also found two cannabis packages stored in the motorcycle’s luggage, and 13 tramadol tablets from another rider. Some vehicles lacking documents and without number plates were seized for further checks.
Reynold emphasised that this stationary raid is a preventive measure to suppress potential street crime and to create a sense of safety for the public. ‘This raid is part of a ’cipta kondisi’ (condition-creating) effort to prevent street crime, drug abuse, possession of sharp weapons, and other Kamtibmas disturbances in Central Jakarta,’ he added. He also assured that authorities will continue to increase territorial patrols and carry out similar operations during vulnerable hours to keep the situation safe and conducive.
For residents needing police assistance or noting any security disturbances, the public can contact the Police Call Center 110, which is available 24 hours. In addition to enforcement, officers also provided humane guidance to riders found not carrying dangerous goods or narcotics before allowing them to continue their journey.
