Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) for Central Jakarta is targeting a fundraising total of Rp5.5 billion through the 2026 PMI Fundraising Month, which will run for three months from 1 September to 30 November 2026.

“The Rp5.5 billion target is not merely a number. Behind this target lies the need to ensure that PMI remains ready to provide services whenever the community requires assistance,” said the Chairman of PMI Central Jakarta, Asep Djuanda Sunarya, during the launch of the 2026 Central Jakarta PMI Fundraising Month in Jakarta on Thursday.

He stated that the funds collected during the 2026 Fundraising Month will be used to support various humanitarian service programmes in 2027. These programmes include disaster emergency response, healthcare services, ambulance services, clinics, first aid posts, the development of Youth Red Cross (PMR) and volunteers, organisational development, and drought preparedness.

In addition to supporting community services, the funds are also necessary to maintain PMI’s operational continuity, including personnel requirements, maintenance of buildings, vehicles, and ambulances, as well as other operational needs.

Furthermore, this year’s fundraising will involve various elements of the Central Jakarta community, ranging from neighbourhood heads (RT/RW), sub-districts, and districts to civil servants (ASN), ministries, state institutions, the business sector, and the general public.

Asep noted that support gathered through previous PMI Fundraising Months has been utilised for various humanitarian service activities.

“When there is a fire, PMI is present. When the community needs an ambulance, PMI is present. When the community needs social assistance, PMI is present. And when a disaster occurs, PMI must be ready to be in the midst of the community,” Asep emphasised.

As of June 2026, PMI Central Jakarta has provided ambulance services to 2,069 patients and 112 hearse services. In handling fire emergency responses, PMI Central Jakarta has also distributed 5,410 boxes of rice, 613 school kits, 472 hygiene kits, 465 family kits, and 62 tarpaulins to affected residents.

Meanwhile, in supporting the ‘Keep Jakarta Clean’ movement, PMI distributed 1,000 hoes, 980 shovels, 198 trolleys, 500 boxes of masks, and 1,000 sacks to support community cleaning activities.

Asep believes that this data demonstrates that community support through the PMI Fundraising Month does not remain just a figure in a report, but is realised through humanitarian services. He expressed hope that all elements of the Central Jakarta community would participate so that the Rp5.5 billion target can be achieved and PMI’s service capacity can be strengthened.

“Let us make the PMI Fundraising Month a collective movement, because humanitarian issues are our shared responsibility,” Asep concluded.
