Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police Launches Large-Scale Raids to Deter Street Crime

To deter street crime and safeguard public order, Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police conducted large-scale raids at several high-risk locations. The operation targeted a range of violations, from possession of bladed weapons to drug abuse.

The Central Jakarta Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung, said the activity is a preventive step to provide a sense of security for city residents. ‘We are intensifying patrols and raids to give the public a sense of safety,’ he said in Jakarta on Friday, 22 May 2026.

The raid began on Friday at 1:00 am Western Indonesian Time (WIB), with enforcement involving the police precincts across the Central Jakarta jurisdiction. Officers carried out intensive checks on motorcycle riders, particularly those not wearing helmets, vehicles without registration documents, and riders with more than two people on one bike.

During the operation, police arrested several individuals found in possession of illegal items at various locations. In addition to detaining offenders, officers also seized several vehicles lacking official documents (STNK) or number plates for further inspection. Reynold stressed that this stationary raid is part of a ‘cipta kondisi’ effort to curb potential premanism and other public order disturbances in Central Jakarta.

While taking a firm stance against violators, officers at the ground level continued to issue humane advisories to riders who behaved lawfully and did not carry dangerous items.

‘This raid is part of a cipta kondisi effort to prevent street crime, drug abuse, possession of bladed weapons, and other public order disturbances in the Central Jakarta area,’ Reynold added.

The police said territorial patrols would be intensified, especially during high-risk hours. Members of the public who notice security disturbances are urged to report to the 110 Police Call Centre, which operates 24 hours a day.
