Central Jakarta Mayor Targets Jati Pinggir Redevelopment Completion by November

Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin is targeting the redevelopment of the Jati Pinggir area in Tanah Abang into a green open space (RTH) for completion by November 2026, in time for Jakarta’s 500th anniversary. “This area will be beautified, tidied up, and arranged so that residents can welcome Jakarta’s 500th birthday with a much better public space,” Arifin said during an inspection on Wednesday. He explained that the area, previously occupied by illegal buildings, will be transformed into a park and integrated public space to meet the interaction needs of residents in the densely populated neighbourhood. The redevelopment stretches nearly one kilometre from Jalan Petamburan to the end of the area, with widths varying between 7 and 11 metres. The project will be executed by the Central Jakarta Parks and Urban Forest Sub-agency, restoring the land’s function as a public space for all residents. Arifin called for full support from all community elements, including neighbourhood units, community units, and local institutions, emphasising that the development is solely for the benefit of residents. Regarding those who previously earned a living along the stretch, Arifin confirmed that the government has conducted dialogue and outreach through more than three focus group discussions. He added that the city administration will provide designated spots for micro, small, and medium enterprises within the area, adjusted to the capacity of the green open space, while the local community unit post will be rebuilt as a more suitable shared space for resident activities.
