Central Jakarta Mayor reminds residents to be alert to fires during dry season
Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin has reminded the public to increase their vigilance against the potential for fires during the dry season, which is predicted to last until October 2026.
“Jakarta is currently entering the dry season, which is predicted to last until October. Therefore, residents must increase their vigilance,” said Arifin while inspecting the site of a fire in Paseban, Senen District, Central Jakarta, on Friday.
Arifin asked residents not to carry out activities that could potentially trigger fires, including burning rubbish carelessly in residential areas.
In addition, the public also needs to check the condition of electrical installations in their homes regularly to prevent short circuits, which can be one of the triggers of fires.
“Do not burn rubbish carelessly and check electrical installations again so that short circuits do not occur, which can trigger fires,” he said.
Arifin said that increasing public vigilance is important during the dry season because drier environmental conditions can increase the risk of fire spreading quickly if a fire occurs.
The appeal was made after a fire hit a residential area in Paseban, which resulted in 15 houses being burnt.
As a result of the incident, 35 families or 95 people were affected and have now received assistance from the Central Jakarta City Government together with the relevant agencies.
The Central Jakarta City Government has also prepared evacuation tents at SDN 05 Paseban to accommodate the affected residents.
The tents were placed in the outdoor area of the classrooms so that teaching and learning activities and sports activities at the school could continue.
The Central Jakarta City Government urged the public to immediately report potential fire hazards in their respective neighbourhoods and to ensure that various sources that could trigger fires are in a safe condition.
