Central Jakarta Immigration Office Socialises 'Global Citizen of Indonesia' Policy
The Central Jakarta Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office held a socialisation session for the ‘Global Citizen of Malaysia’ (GCI) policy as part of an effort to align public services with dynamic global developments. The Head of the Central Jakarta Immigration Office, M. Iqbal Ma’ruf, stated that this session was intended to provide a comprehensive understanding of the GCI, communicate service mechanisms and procedures, and enhance cross-agency synergy with the diaspora community.
‘We hope this activity serves not only as an educational tool but also as a forum for productive discussion and information exchange,’ Iqbal said in Jakarta on Monday. He noted that the session was attended by various stakeholders, including representatives from the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration for Jakarta, immigration technical implementation units within Jakarta, and members of the diaspora and mixed-marriage communities in Indonesia.
According to Iqbal, the diaspora community and mixed-marriage groups are primary focuses of the GCI policy. He expressed hope that the event would provide a space for dialogue between the government, academics, diaspora communities, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to support an Indonesian immigration policy that is increasingly advanced and responsive to global dynamics.
The socialisation included presentations from officials representing the Jakarta Provincial Population and Civil Registry Office, the Directorate of Stay Permits and Immigration Status, and the Directorate of State Affairs under the Directorate General of Legal Administrative Services of the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia, followed by a Q&A session. Through this initiative, the Central Jakarta Immigration Office is committed to overseeing the GCI policy to ensure positive impacts, strong legal certainty, and responsive public services on the international stage.
