The Central Jakarta City Government has emphasised the importance of character building for government officials through an internship programme for students of the Professional Study Programme in Governance at the Institute of Home Affairs Governance (IPDN).

Central Jakarta Deputy Mayor Eric PZ Lumbun stated that the internship is not merely a means of academic learning, but a strategic vehicle for character formation and strengthening practical understanding of regional governance.

“Make the most of this internship momentum to learn firsthand how governance theories are applied in daily practice, from the city and sub-district to the urban village level,” Eric said at the City Hall on Monday.

He noted that Central Jakarta serves as an ideal location for the students to understand practical governance due to its complex and dynamic characteristics.

Acting Director of the IPDN Governance Education Programme, Muhadam Labolo, said the internship is being attended by 57 students from the XVII cohort of the 2026/2027 academic year. The participants come from various civil service backgrounds, including assistants, secretaries of agencies, sub-district heads, and sub-district secretaries.

“The objective of this practical programme is to enhance capacity in three important aspects: physical, psychomotor, and objective,” Muhadam stated.
