Central Jakarta gets more phone lines

JAKARTA (JP): The Central Jakarta branch office of the state- owned Telkom telecommunication company has installed 11,634 new telephone lines, 1,248 new lines for public phones and 35 new lines for telex during the first nine months of this year.

Head of the office G.S. Sigit Pramono said in a statement yesterday the installation of the new telephone lines accounted for 75 percent of his office target of 15,500 lines.

The 1,248 new public phone lines consisted of 741 lines for card telephones and 507 lines for coin telephones, he said.

The installation of the new card telephones in the first nine months was almost 74 percent of the office target of 1,002 lines but the number of the new coin telephones almost doubled the office target of only 261 lines.

The new lines for telex was almost four times higher than the office plan of nine lines, he said.

Sigit also revealed that his office has recorded a significant achievement in reducing the number of public complaints against certain problems in using communication services whose lines are channeled to the Gambir, Cikini and Cempaka Putih telecommunication central networks.

During the January-September period, the number of complaints recorded at the three networks was 1.90 percent lower than those recorded in the same period last year.

In a bid to further reduce the number of problems, the Central Jakarta Telkom office installed an additional 1,057 lines using overhead telephone cables and 764 lines using underground cables in September, Sigit said.

Herman Susanto, spokesman to the branch office, said Central Jakarta Telkom has also installed a total of 132,966 telecommunication lines for various purposes as of last month. (bsr)
