Central Jakarta District Court Rejects Exception in Businessman Extortion Case

The case involving the alleged extortion and intimidation of businessman Vincent has entered a new phase. The Central Jakarta District Court has rejected the objection, or exception, submitted by the legal counsel for the defendant, lawyer Bangun Paulus Tudungta.

With this ruling, the trial will immediately proceed to the evidentiary stage. The panel of judges has scheduled the follow-up hearing for Wednesday, 9 September 2026.

The interlocutory decision was read by the Presiding Judge, Ahmad Rasyid Purba, during the hearing at the Central Jakarta District Court on Wednesday (2/9/2026).

“With this, the trial will continue with the presentation of evidence, which will be held on Wednesday, 9 September 2026,” said Ahmad Rasyid during the proceedings.

Public Prosecutor Andri Saputra welcomed the decision, stating that his office respects the judges’ considerations. According to him, the arguments submitted by Bangun Paulus’s legal team entered the substance of the case, which pertains to the evidence that must be examined in the next stage of the trial.

“In essence, the judge’s decision rejects or does not accept the exception from the defendant Bangun’s legal counsel, as the items of objection relate to matters of evidence,” Andri stated after the trial.

Andri noted that the panel of judges deemed the material presented in the exception had reached the core merits of the case. “The panel considers that the objection has entered the substance of the case and is no longer in accordance with the provisions of Article 206 that I presented in court last week,” he said.

Following the rejection of the exception, prosecutors are now preparing the evidence. Andri confirmed that Vincent will be prioritised as a witness to be summoned for the next hearing. Andri explained that Vincent will be summoned because, in addition to being the complainant, he is also the victim in this case.

“In accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), we must first summon the victim. We will likely summon Vincent as the complainant next week,” he added.
