Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Jakarta City Government has cracked down on several sidewalk stalls of street vendors (PKL) and Social Welfare Service Facilities (PPKS) located on the sidewalks in the Cempaka Putih sub-district in an effort to restore their function. “To ensure that sidewalk facilities are used as intended,” said the Deputy Head of Cempaka Putih Sub-district in Central Jakarta, Andry Pencawan, in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to him, the crackdown was carried out in several locations such as along Jalan Percetakan Negara, Pramuka Sari, and parts of Jalan Ahmad Yani. Andry stated that the crackdown was conducted by the Satpol PP unit during the Community Order Building activity. This activity is an effort by the Cempaka Putih Sub-district to create comfort and order. He explained that the crackdown is to ensure that sidewalks are used as they should be, namely for pedestrians. Furthermore, Andry said that during the crackdown, his side also took action against illegal parking, resulting in five motorcycle units having their valves removed. “Five motorcycle units were secured and three PPKS as well as seven street vendors were given yellow cards,” he said. Andry explained that the yellow cards are given to PKL as a data registration step. When vendors have been given yellow cards, they are recorded with the Satpol PP. Then, if there is another crackdown and violations are found, the next action is a minor criminal offence (Tipiring). In this activity, Satpol PP moved together with personnel from the Social Services Sub-District Office, Transportation Sub-District Office, TNI, Polri, and the Community Early Warning Forum (FKDM).
