A major fire has engulfed a densely populated residential area on Kemayoran Gempol Street in Kebon Kosong, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta. The Central Jakarta City Government is currently counting the number of homes destroyed by the blaze.

‘On-site and identifying the number of houses,’ said Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin on Monday (1 June 2026).

The city government, in collaboration with relevant agencies, has immediately set up a temporary evacuation centre near the fire site on Kemayoran Gempol Street.

‘The evacuation centre is being set up at Yusuf Hamka field, behind Palazo apartment,’ Arifin stated.

Police have closed road sections to redirect traffic around the fire area, while firefighters are containing the blaze to prevent it from spreading to neighbouring buildings.

DKI Jakarta Disaster Management Agency (Gulkarmat) Chief Bayu Meghantara said 33 combined firefighting units and 100 personnel have been deployed to the scene.

‘The fire report was received at 8:55 pm WIB,’ Bayu said on Monday (1 June).

Firefighters arrived at the site near Masjid Jami’ Al Ikhlas at 9:05 pm WIB and immediately began firefighting operations.

‘The situation is still in firefighting operations (red status). Personnel on the ground are working to contain the fire as the spread is highly possible,’ Bayu explained.

The exact cause of the fire and total material losses from the low-rise structures remain unknown.

Authorities are focusing on extinguishing the fire in the residential area to prevent it from spreading to surrounding buildings.
