Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Jakarta City Government is accelerating poverty alleviation efforts in four sub-districts in the area by identifying existing problems. “We want to ensure that the problem identification is accurate and comprehensive so that the interventions formulated later are on target and effective,” said the Acting Mayor of Central Jakarta, Arifin, in Jakarta on Thursday. The four sub-districts included in the poverty handling efforts are Tanah Tinggi Ward, Johar Baru Ward, Kampung Rawa Ward, and Galur Ward, all located in Johar Baru Sub-District. He is maturing the action plan for accelerating urban poverty alleviation, particularly in those four sub-districts, as a follow-up to the Jakarta Governor’s Instruction No. 001 of 2026. “The Governor’s Instruction designates 22 sub-districts as priorities for poverty alleviation handling. Four of them are in Johar Baru Sub-District,” he stated. He explained that the selection of the four sub-districts in Johar Baru is based on poverty rates and various other social problems. The crucial initial step implemented in the four sub-districts is detailed problem identification. Several main issues found in the field include high stunting rates in children, school dropouts, and poor sanitation. Arifin explained that this poverty alleviation handling is not burdened on one agency alone, but involves various Regional Device Organisations (OPD) according to their respective authorities and budgets. “The Central Jakarta City Government will also collaborate with strategic partners through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes. The involvement of the private sector is expected to fill gaps in needs not accommodated by the regional budget,” he said. Arifin added that this process is ongoing work carried out gradually through the Provincial Poverty Alleviation Coordination Team of DKI Jakarta. The main target is not just to run routine programmes, but to create real changes in Johar Baru. “We want Johar Baru to change—houses to be more livable and well-arranged, and the community to be more prosperous and healthy,” he said.
