JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has revealed that Central Jakarta is the region with the highest housing backlog in DKI Jakarta. This situation is prompting the government to accelerate the construction of homes through cross-ministerial collaboration, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and the private sector.

BPS Chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that nationally, the percentage of the population without homes reaches 13%. However, this figure is significantly higher in DKI Jakarta.

She added that, when broken down further, Central Jakarta has the highest backlog.

“Then, if we dissect it further among the cities in Jakarta, the highest backlog is in Central Jakarta, where 55.83% of households in Central Jakarta do not own a home, or in other words, around 146,729 households,” said Amalia.

Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait stated that the government is moving quickly to address this backlog, including through the utilisation of SOE-owned land.

“Today I feel truly happy because I received super-fast support,” she said on the same occasion.

She explained that several housing projects have been targeted for completion soon, specifically on 25 June 2026, including construction in the Senen and Tanah Abang areas.

In addition, 500 housing units will be built in Tanah Abang with the same completion target date. These houses will be constructed on land owned by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero).

“So this is a new model of work that I think was initiated by Mr Dony Oskaria, which doesn’t talk about when it starts, but when it finishes,” she said.

Head of the SOE Policy Agency Dony Oskaria stated that his side will optimise SOE assets to support people’s housing development.

“Of course, we from the SOEs thank you for the trust given to show that SOEs are indeed the property of the Indonesian people, and for assets that were previously not well utilised, we will certainly make the most of them to be enjoyed by the community as much as possible,” said Dony.

Meanwhile, Presidential Chief of Staff Muhammad Qodari assessed this collaboration as a form of government entrepreneurship capable of accelerating the realisation of government programmes.

“The ethos and spirit like those in entrepreneurship—ideas, networks, resources, information—all fast, and I see that’s what makes it so that in one hour and in less than a week, directions from the President and the Cabinet Secretary can result in tangible outcomes,” he said.

He hopes that this collaboration will not only target one location but also other points with high backlogs.
