Central Jakarta Administration to Make Subdistrict and District Offices Waste Management Models
The Central Jakarta City Administration (Pemkot Jakpus) plans to make subdistrict and district offices models for waste management by implementing independent sorting and processing of organic and inorganic waste.
Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin stated the measure is intended to enable government offices to set an example for the community in managing waste at the source.
“Today, I am going around. I want to ensure that the subdistrict and district offices can also set an example for the community, showing that waste is managed through sorting and processing at their respective offices,” Arifin said in Jakarta on Monday.
He mentioned that organic waste management within the Central Jakarta Mayor’s Office is carried out using a composter that produces leachate to be utilised as liquid fertiliser.
Additionally, the administration has built a processing facility called a ‘teba’, a large hole similar to a biopore used to process organic waste.
“The composter produces leachate which is then used as liquid fertiliser. Furthermore, we also made a ‘teba’, which is quite large, so all the organic waste will go in there,” Arifin said.
Arifin noted that the results of inorganic waste management are also used to support the activities of cleaning staff within the office environment.
He has also requested his staff to calculate the daily volume of waste generated at the Central Jakarta Mayor’s Office as a basis for evaluating the effectiveness of the waste management programme.
According to Arifin, the implementation of this system will be replicated across all government offices in Central Jakarta as part of the implementation of DKI Jakarta Governor Instruction Number 5 of 2026 concerning waste management.
He revealed that this step is also part of efforts to reduce the volume of waste sent to the Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Treatment Plant (TPST), given the increasingly limited capacity of the final processing site.
“Through the implementation of waste management in government offices, the Central Jakarta City Administration hopes that the culture of sorting and processing waste can become more widespread in the community,” Arifin added.
