Central Jakarta Administration to Maintain Pasar Baru Rowing Competition
The Mayor of Central Jakarta, Arifin, stated that the Pasar Baru Rowing Competition will continue to be held annually as a hallmark of the district.
“The rowing competition in Pasar Baru will continue to be held every year. This is a characteristic feature of Pasar Baru. We must care for, guard, and maintain the Ciliwung River that lies beside us,” Arifin said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Monday.
Arifin noted that a clean Ciliwung River can support the use of the river as a space for sporting activities as well as a tourist attraction in the Pasar Baru area.
He urged the public to maintain the cleanliness of the river sustainably and requested that next year’s competition be organised more festively in anticipation of Jakarta’s five-century milestone in 2027.
“Hopefully, next year marks exactly 5 centuries for Jakarta. Pasar Baru must become even more lively and vibrant,” he added.
He expressed hope that all regional apparatus would assist in preparing supporting facilities to ensure the Pasar Baru area becomes increasingly lively and attractive to the public.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Central Jakarta Youth and Sports Sub-department, Rusdiyanto, stated that this year’s rowing competition was attended by more than 60 teams divided into three categories: 13 student teams, 16 community teams, and 26 regional apparatus teams.
The festival also featured various traditional community sports, Inorga creative activities, MSME bazaars, donations for orphans, and group aerobics.
“This rowing competition is a fixed agenda in Central Jakarta. We want to develop water sports, harness the potential for sport tourism, and simultaneously realise a healthy society and competitive youth,” said Rusdiyanto.
