Central Jakarta Administration Reorganises Kebon Kacang Area Following Illegal Structure Clearance
Jakarta — The Central Jakarta City Government is reorganising the environmental area on Jalan Kebon Kacang 30 following the clearance and removal of illegal structures along the riverbank.
“We want infrastructure facilities to be genuinely used for public purposes, not for trading and similar activities,” said the Administrative Mayor of Central Jakarta, Arifin, in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He stated that following the clearance of illegal structures, the area would be restored to serve pedestrians and as a park, making the region more orderly and neat.
Arifin outlined that the reorganisation would be conducted continuously and in phases, beginning with the removal of illegal structures, followed by river dredging by the District Water Resources Office to address sedimentation issues.
“We will beautify and enhance the street along Jalan Kebon Kacang 30. This is an important alternative access route,” he said.
The improvements also include tree planting, riverbank reinforcement to enhance the area’s appearance, pedestrian pathway construction and park development.
Arifin also called upon all residents in the Kebon Kacang area and community institutions, including neighbourhood associations, community forums and women’s welfare groups, to participate in and support the creation of a well-organised environment.
The reorganisation initiative has been welcomed by road users in the area. Iyus, an employee working in the region, expressed satisfaction with the improvements to Jalan Kebon Kacang.
According to him, the reorganisation has made the area more orderly and improved vehicular traffic flow for both motorcycles and cars.
“I think the road reorganisation plan is good because you can see it is now passable by cars. Previously it would be congested and pedestrians had difficulty crossing, but now it is cleaner,” he said.
