The Central Jakarta City Administration is preparing business development programmes for traders affected by the demolition of 95 semi-permanent structures on Jalan Abdul Jalil, Karet Tengsin Urban Village, Tanah Abang District, on Thursday.

Central Jakarta Assistant for Economy and Development Suprayogie stated that the majority of the demolished structures were business premises, prompting the government to seek solutions so that business operators can continue their economic activities.

“God willing, some will become assisted enterprises under the Central Jakarta Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and Small and Medium Enterprises Sub-department,” Suprayogie said in Jakarta on Thursday.

He explained that the government has offered residents several alternative trading locations, including several spots around Karet Tengsin and the Jalan KH Mas Mansyur area.

“We have presented several location options. We are also ready to mediate if residents propose locations, but the discussions have not yet been finalised,” Suprayogie said.

Furthermore, he revealed that the government is maintaining open communication with residents so that a business placement solution can be mutually agreed upon in the near future.

Prior to the demolition, the Central Jakarta City Administration had conducted three rounds of socialisation and one official meeting involving the urban village head, neighbourhood and community unit administrators, the Urban Village Consultative Body, and the Community Early Awareness Forum to explain the reasons for the clearance and the area’s reorganisation.

The demolition targeted structures built over the connecting channel on Jalan Abdul Jalil, RW 09 and RW 11, Karet Tengsin.

Once all structures are removed, the government will immediately normalise the channel and reorganise the area so that drainage functions optimally again while improving the environmental quality of the surrounding location.

“After construction, the channel will be tidied up, small traps will be built, and it will be immediately normalised,” Suprayogie stated.
