The Central Bangka Regency Government, in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, is projecting Lubuk Pabrik Village to become a centre for shallot production to strengthen food independence and the local supply of seeds.

Speaking in Koba on Monday, the Regent of Central Bangka, Algafry Rahman, stated that the development of shallots in Lubuk Pabrik Village is directed not only to meet consumption needs but also to serve as a seed producer for local farmers. “We want Lubuk Pabrik to become a shallot centre so that in the future, there will be no need to bring in seeds from outside the region, but instead, they can be produced locally by farmers,” said Algafry.

According to the Regent, developing this horticultural commodity is part of the local government’s efforts to optimise agricultural land while increasing community income. The Central Bangka Regency Government is also encouraging farmer groups and women’s farmer groups (KWT) to act as the frontline in cultivating shallots in home gardens and residential agricultural land.

Algafry expressed his appreciation for the Melati Women’s Farmer Group, which has successfully implemented a formula-based shallot planting method using an initial 46 kilograms of seeds.
