Central Bangka Regency prepares measures to stabilise chicken prices

The Central Bangka Regency Government in the Bangka Belitung Islands is coordinating with the provincial government and chicken supplier companies to maintain supply availability in order to control the price of the commodity in the market.

Central Bangka Regency Regional Secretary Ahmad Syarifullah Nizam in Koba on Tuesday said the measure was taken in response to the rising price of broiler chicken, which has now reached Rp48,000 to Rp49,000 per kilogram.

“We hope the Bangka Belitung Islands Province can respond wisely so that the increase in chicken prices can be properly controlled,” he said after attending the 2026 Inflation Control Coordination Meeting.

He said price control needs to be carried out by maintaining a balance between supply and public demand, especially because demand for chicken is increasing.

According to him, the need for chicken in Central Bangka has also increased in line with the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals programme, which is currently being carried out through six Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units.

In addition, he said, weather conditions in the form of strong winds and high waves have caused fish catches to decline, so public demand for chicken as an alternative side dish has increased.

Syarifullah said the regional government has mapped the sources of chicken supply in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, which come from four large companies, namely PT Semesta Mitra Sejahtera, PT Ciomas Hadi Satwa, PT Panca Patriot Prima, and PT Satwa Utama.

“We need to ensure that supply remains available so that public needs can be met and prices can return to being under control,” he said.

He said that based on information from supplier companies, chicken prices are expected to begin stabilising again in mid-September 2026.

“Information from our colleagues at the companies indicates that by mid-September 2026 chicken prices are expected to stabilise again and could fall,” he said.

Chicken prices currently in the range of Rp48,000 to Rp49,000 per kilogram are above the Sales Reference Price of Rp40,000 per kilogram and have been recorded as one of the commodities influencing the 3.26 percent increase in the Central Bangka Price Development Index.
