The People’s School in Central Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, is projected to accommodate 2,000 students, double the initial plan of 1,000 students.

Central Bangka Regional Secretary Ahmad Syarifullah Nizzam in Koba on Monday said the increase in capacity means preparations for study groups and teaching staff need to be adjusted.

“The People’s School, which was initially projected to have a capacity of 1,000 students, has increased to 2,000 people, or there has been an increase in study groups,” he said.

According to Nizzam, the requirements for establishing the People’s School in Central Bangka have essentially been met. The regional government is now adjusting a number of documents following changes in land use.

The land area previously listed reached nine hectares, but changes occurred on the ground because part of the land will be used for the construction of a dual-carriageway road.

“Because there is a change or reduction in land area due to part of it being used for a dual-carriageway road, we must revise the documents again,” Nizzam said.

The Central Bangka Regency Government is also proposing the issuance of certificates according to land requirements while still providing sufficient space for road access.

In terms of supporting facilities, he continued, the central government has provided assistance of Rp9 billion for the procurement of water resources that will draw supply from Kolong Sarkawi.

Meanwhile, for teaching staff, Nizzam said the regional government is still preparing the recruitment process according to the special criteria that have been established.

“We must synergise with the central government to prepare teachers who meet the qualifications,” Nizzam said.

Nizzam said the regional government’s authority in the operation of the People’s School includes the provision of land and management of dormitories.

The Central Bangka Regency Government is targeting the People’s School to begin operating and accepting new students in the 2027 academic year.

“However, all of that depends on the central government. We are waiting, and what is within the region’s authority regarding the People’s School we have already fulfilled,” he said.
