Central Aceh Regency Accelerates Infrastructure Recovery, Focusing on Public Access
The Central Aceh Regency government in Aceh is accelerating post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction of infrastructure by prioritising the restoration of public access. The handling of roads, bridges, river channels, and basic infrastructure is being carried out through a division of authority between the central government, the Aceh government, and the regency government.
Central Aceh Deputy Regent Muchsin Hasan said that recovery is not only oriented towards completing physical structures. Recovery must also ensure the reconnection of residents’ access to settlements, schools, agricultural land, public services, and centres of economic activity.
“The rehabilitation and reconstruction programme is underway. Works under the authority of the central government through the Ministry of Public Works and the Aceh National Road Implementation Agency are progressing well. Likewise, works by the Aceh government and the regency government through various funding sources are still in process,” Muchsin said in a written statement on Wednesday (19/8/2026).
A number of needs receiving attention include river normalisation, restoration of road sections leading to settlements, handling of affected bridges, and provision of basic infrastructure. Such measures are needed to reduce the risk of access being disrupted again by floods and landslides, while helping residents carry out their activities more safely.
The Central Aceh Regency government is also strengthening damage data collection as a basis for setting priority scales. Locations directly related to safety, mobility, education, agriculture, and community economic activity are being pushed to receive earlier handling, while long-term needs are aligned with central government and Aceh government programmes.
Based on data from the Directorate General of Regional Financial Development at the Ministry of Home Affairs as of 20 July 2026, Central Aceh Regency did not receive additional Transfers to Regions for the 2026 fiscal year. The absence of additional transfers does not mean recovery support for Central Aceh has stopped. Works funded by ministry/institutional budgets, the Aceh government, the regency budget, and other lawful funding sources continue according to their respective authorities and stages.
Central Aceh has also received inter-regional financial assistance amounting to Rp27 billion, consisting of Rp25 billion from the North Sumatra Provincial Government and Rp2 billion from the Solok Regency Government. The assistance entered the Central Aceh Regional General Cash Account in June 2026 and strengthens the spirit of inter-regional mutual cooperation in supporting post-disaster recovery.
The Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sumatra is also continuing monitoring and evaluation to ensure Central Aceh’s needs are conveyed to relevant ministries, institutions, and regional governments. The team reviewed progress in handling temporary housing, affected bridges, and road sections disrupted by floods and landslides in Takengon and surrounding areas.
The monitoring results serve as a basis for clarifying the division of handling, avoiding overlapping programmes, and accelerating the resolution of cross-authority obstacles.
