Central Aceh Hit by Floods Again, Two Temporary Bridges Collapse
Flash floods have struck Central Aceh district, Aceh, once again due to heavy rain lashing the area on Monday (6/4). The head of the Aceh Disaster Mitigation Agency, Bahron Bakti, stated that the disaster caused two temporary bridges, previously built after the November 2025 disaster, to collapse again. “The two bridges are located in Burlah Village, Ketol Sub-district, and Terang Engon Village, Silih Nara Sub-district,” Bahron said. Due to the damage, four villages in Ketol Sub-district have become isolated once more. Additionally, one village in Silih Nara Sub-district has lost access after the connecting bridge was damaged and tilted by the strong flood currents. Nevertheless, no fatalities or evacuees have been reported from this follow-up flash flood so far. For emergency response, the Central Aceh BPBD team has deployed two units of heavy equipment to the affected locations to accelerate access restoration. Bahron added that the situation on the ground remains precarious due to continuous high-intensity rain and strong water flows. As a precautionary measure, the Quick Reaction Team for Disaster Mitigation (TRC PB) personnel have also been mobilised to minimise further risks. This disaster once again highlights the area’s vulnerability to hydrometeorological events, especially amid ongoing extreme weather conditions. (Ant/E-3)
