Center for Japanese studies
JAKARTA (JP): The Center for Japanese Studies is scheduled to be inaugurated today at the Depok campus of the University of Indonesia, according to the Japanese embassy.
The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Minister of Education and Culture Wardiman Djojonegoro, Minister of Health Sujudi and Ambassador of Japan Taizo Watanabe.
The center, built with a Japanese grant worth about Rp 24.85 billion (US$11.29 million), will have dual functions of promoting research and providing graduate education in various fields of Japanese studies, including economics and management, social sciences, humanities, history and literature and science and technology.
Research work, seminars and academic conferences will be the core activities of the center.
Following the opening ceremony, the center will hold a symposium entitled Progress of Science and Related Coordination of Human Beings. The keynote speaker is Prof. Dr. Jun'ichi Nishizawa, rector of Tohoku University in Japan. (hhr)
