CENTCOM: US Intercepts Iranian Missiles Launched Towards Strait of Hormuz
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has reported that the US intercepted ballistic missiles and drones launched by Iran towards the Strait of Hormuz and countries in the Gulf region.
“United States forces intercepted a number of Iranian ballistic missiles and drones launched towards the Strait of Hormuz and neighbouring countries in the Gulf region on 5 June,” CENTCOM stated in a release.
CENTCOM stated that Iran fired seven ballistic missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain. Six missiles were successfully intercepted, while the seventh missile failed to reach its intended target.
The statement also noted that, to date, there have been no reports of casualties or losses among US military personnel.
“Iran’s claims that they have damaged the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain are untrue,” the statement added.
CENTCOM added that its forces remain on alert and are in a position to continue responding to what it described as “Iranian aggression.”
