CENTCOM Confirms US Launches Further Strikes Against Iran

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed on Wednesday that the US has launched further strikes against Iran, targeting Iranian military positions in the Strait of Hormuz. “At the direction of the Commander-in-Chief, US Central Command forces have initiated additional strikes against Iran to further degrade its ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” a CENTCOM statement read. “The United States holds Iran accountable for its recent, unjustifiable aggression against commercial vessels and civilian crews transiting this vital international shipping lane,” the statement continued. Earlier, Axios reported, citing a US official, that the American military struck Iranian military targets in the Strait of Hormuz region. According to the report, Washington expanded the scope of its strikes compared to previous days by targeting coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile positions, and air defence systems belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). On Wednesday morning, US President Donald Trump stated that the ceasefire with Iran was no longer in effect. Hours later, Iranian media reported explosions heard in several cities in the southern part of the country. The additional strikes mark a sharp escalation in tensions between the United States and Iran following the declared end of the ceasefire.
