CENTCOM Confirms US Launches Further Strikes Against Iran

Washington (ANTARA) - US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Wednesday confirmed that the United States has carried out follow-up strikes against Iran, targeting the Iranian military in the Strait of Hormuz.

“At the direction of the Commander-in-Chief, US Central Command forces have initiated additional strikes against Iran to further degrade its ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

“The United States holds Iran accountable for its recent unjustifiable aggression against merchant vessels and civilian crews transiting this vital international waterway,” the statement continued.

Earlier, Axios reported, citing a US official, that the American military had struck Iranian military targets in the Strait of Hormuz area.

According to the report, Washington expanded the scope of its strikes compared with previous days by targeting coastal radars, anti-ship missile positions, and air defence systems belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

On Wednesday morning, US President Donald Trump stated that the ceasefire with Iran was no longer in effect.

Several hours later, Iranian media reported explosions heard in a number of cities in the south of the country.

The additional strikes mark a rising escalation of tensions between the United States and Iran following the declared end of the ceasefire.
