Cempaka Putih Barat Residents Turn Plastic Bottles into Economic Products

Residents of RW 05 in Cempaka Putih Barat subdistrict, Central Jakarta, are turning used plastic bottle waste into a range of economically valuable handicrafts using a Filamini machine and a three-dimensional (3D) printer.

“The Filamini machine and 3D printer are very beneficial for residents to process inorganic waste into economically valuable goods,” said Ani Purnama, head of Cempaka Putih Barat subdistrict, in a statement issued in Jakarta on Saturday.

She said residents were using the equipment to produce various handicrafts, such as keychains, toy replicas and souvenirs made from recycled plastic.

Ani explained that the process begins with sorting, cleaning and cutting used plastic bottles into thin sheets.

In addition to producing handicrafts, the subdistrict office also received a plastic waste pressing machine, which is expected to support the management of inorganic waste in the area.

“Once the raw material is ready, the 3D printer is used to create a variety of handicraft designs,” said Ani.

She further noted that the Filamini machine, 3D printer and plastic waste press were donations received around two weeks ago under a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek) together with Mercu Buana University.

She expressed hope that the donated equipment would raise public awareness that plastic waste still has value if processed correctly.

“We are optimistic that these three plastic processing machines will accelerate the reduction of inorganic waste in the Cempaka Putih Barat area,” said Ani.
