Celebratus interruptus

HANOI: The streets were unusually quiet on Friday evening during and after the soccer final between host Vietnam and Thailand at the My Dinh Stadium.

While the stadium accommodates only 40,000 spectators, most Hanoians chose to stay at home, glued to their TV screens to watch the gold medal match. In previous games, the calm on the streets lasted for around two hours, after which motorcades with the roaring horns would fill the streets, celebrating each Vietnam victory.

However, it was quiet all night after the match after the Vietnamese men's soccer team lost to Thailand 2-1. --JP
