Celebration of independence day

People all over the country are busy preparing to celebrate
the 50th anniversary of Indonesian independence. Various
activities have been held to welcome the event. Public parks are
being cleaned and their plants pruned. Beautifully-adorned
temporary archways are being erected at the entrance to many
alleys. In some areas of Jakarta, people are being ordered to
decorate their houses with 12 to 15 five-Watt lights. Every night
we can enjoy the beauty of the twinkling decorated lights at
every corner of the city.

We could not gain freedom without the great effort, suffering,
sacrifice and dedication of many heroes who have passed away.
Let's celebrate independence with joy and thank God for setting
us free from uncivilized, inhuman colonialism. Freedom is a
meaningful word for there is no peace if colonialism remains. It
is only freedom which can bring welfare to people. Sukarno, the
proclaimer of independence said: "colonialism must be erased from
the world."

As an independent, sovereign nation which sticks to the 1945
Constitution and Pancasila, let's enjoy the blessings of God and
remember our heroes. Let's make the best of independence by
supporting the development activities of the government.
