Celebrating Tumpek Krulut: Governor Koster Provides Free Coffee and Culinary Treats at 15 MSME Locations in Bali
The Governor of Bali, I Wayan Koster, has revitalised the essence of local compassion through the commemoration of Rahina Tumpek Krulut. On Saturday afternoon, this moment, known as Bali’s Day of Love, was celebrated with a tangible action of sharing free coffee and culinary treats with the public, particularly the younger generation.
One of the main gathering points was observed at Jenar Kopi Kaliasem in Denpasar. Since the morning, thousands of residents had crowded the location to enjoy the atmosphere of togetherness. At this single point alone, approximately 10,000 cups of beverages were prepared free of charge, complete with snacks such as doughnuts and sweet bread for visitors.
This programme is not merely a single action but a simultaneous movement involving 15 culinary MSMEs and local coffee shops across all regencies and cities in Bali. The Provincial Government of Bali aims to strengthen the love for local products while simultaneously providing an economic stimulus for micro-business operators.
Governor Koster emphasised that Tumpek Krulut is the Day of Love according to Balinese tradition. He explained that this activity is an implementation of Jana Kerthi, one of the components of the Sad Kerthi concept which serves as a pillar of Bali’s development.
“Tumpek Krulut is part of Jana Kerthi, which means glorifying humanity through love, affection, and care for others,” said Koster.
He also added that in addition to sharing food, free health check-up services were provided as a form of self-care. Regarding the funding, Koster ensured that the entire programme budget has been arranged in accordance with applicable regulations. He chose this “treating the citizens” method as an effective way to engage with the community amidst a busy government agenda that prevents him from being physically present in all regencies simultaneously.
Enthusiasm came not only from consumers but also from business owners. Anggi, the manager of Jenar Kopi, admitted that this programme provided extraordinary exposure for her shop. She noted a surge in new customers from the younger generation who were previously unfamiliar with their products.
“We are happy because finally, many young people can celebrate Tumpek Krulut in a simple way, by drinking coffee and gathering together. Our hope is that they can become regular customers after trying the coffee here,” Anggi expressed.
