Celebrating Eid in Jakarta, Jokowi Emphasises Patience and Forgiveness

Jakarta - Former President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) interprets Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah as a moment to foster patience and mutual forgiveness. “Patience, forgiveness,” said Jokowi after performing Eid al-Fitr prayers at the Al-Bina Grand Mosque, Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Jakarta, on Saturday (21/3/2026). After the Eid prayer, Jokowi immediately returned home to gather with his children and grandchildren. On his way to the vehicle, he also obliged requests for selfies from residents who had joined the prayer. Meanwhile, Iriana Jokowi appeared in a white kaftan. Previously, Jokowi and Iriana departed from Solo to Jakarta to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah with family. That departure moment was uploaded via Jokowi’s personal Instagram account on Friday (20/3/2026). In his post, Jokowi stated that he would be in Jakarta until 24 March 2026. He explained that the trip was to gather with his children and grandchildren and to reconnect during the Eid al-Fitr moment. “On this Eid al-Fitr occasion, I, together with Mrs Iriana, departed from Solo to Jakarta to gather with the family, reconnect, especially with the grandchildren who always bring cheerfulness and new stories,” he wrote.
