Celebrating Eid at Home, Not in KPK Detention, Yaqut Speaks Out

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has finally spoken out after spending Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah at home, rather than in KPK detention. Yaqut described the moment as a profoundly meaningful experience, particularly because he was able to meet and pay respects to his mother. “Alhamdulillah, I was able to pay respects to my mother; it is an extraordinary blessing,” Yaqut stated at the KPK building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, quoted from detikcom, Tuesday (24/3/2026). However, this freedom was only temporary. After undergoing a series of health examinations, Yaqut was rearrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and was seen wearing an orange vest as he was escorted to the detention centre. Previously, Yaqut’s detention status had been changed to house arrest since Thursday (19/3/2026). This policy was granted after KPK received a request from the family. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the request was approved and processed according to procedure, though the detailed reasons for the house arrest application were not explained. “There was indeed a request from the family, and we processed it,” Budi said. As is known, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas as a suspect in the alleged corruption case regarding the determination of Hajj worship quotas by the Ministry of Religious Affairs for 2023-2024, on 9 January 2026. “It is confirmed that KPK has named two individuals as suspects. The first is YCQ, the former Minister of Religious Affairs, and the second is IAA (Ishfah Abidal Aziz alias Gus Alex), the Special Staff to the Minister of Religious Affairs,” KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated in a press release at the KPK Red and White Building, Jakarta, Friday (9/1/2026).
